The Sustainable Enterprise Institute (SEI) is a recently formed not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable business practices.  Presently, the organization is staffed by its founders and other volunteers.  SEI is based in Vienna, Virginia, in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.  

Key Staff  

Peter Soyka

Co-founder and President.  Peter is an experienced environmental professional who has worked in the environmental consulting/engineering industry for more than 22 years.  He brings to the organization highly developed technical skills in the areas of environmental and sustainability strategy development; management systems design, implementation, training, and assessment; facilitation and training; policy and technology analysis; assessment of program performance; and marketing, outreach, and communications.  Peter is particularly renowned for his work in analyzing the inter-relationships between environmental management and performance and the financial success of corporations.  At SEI, he directs the Research, Education and Professional Development, and Support Services programs and oversees the Institute’s planning and financial management functions.  

S. Robert (Bob) Steele II
Co-founder and Senior Vice President.  Bob Steele is a seasoned environmental professional bringing more than 24 years of professional experience to SEI.  During his career, he has served in a number of technical, program management, marketing, and operations management roles for both small and very large consulting/engineering firms.  Bob has deep expertise in the areas of environmental assessment, investigation and remediation services, and evaluated and/or supervised the remediation of hundreds of commercial and industrial sites nation-wide and internationally. Bob routinely works closely with customer senior management in developing value-added solutions and strategies.  He leads the Institute’s impaired property redevelopment program (Phoenix Realty Fund) as well as outreach activities with prospective corporate donors and strategic business allies.   

Ira Feldman, Esq.

General Counsel.  Ira is an attorney and management consultant, and an internationally known expert in the fields of environmental law and policy, voluntary (“beyond compliance”) environmental improvement programs, and corporate social responsibility and sustainability.  At SEI, Ira serves as Senior Counsel and also lends his talents to the formulation of new programs and activities having a public policy component, and spearheads the Institute’s outreach to the academic and national/international regulatory communities.
